Daily Nugget #81
cork vs. rock
are you a cork?
or
a rock?
how do you experience
your day
your life?
do you bob along
floating
riding the waves
up and down
with the occasional
submersion
or
pull from below??
or
do you just sink to the bottom
and
stay there
in the darkness
heavy
gasping
with no way to get to the surface?
hmmm.
i experience both.
sometimes floating
sometimes sinking.
sometimes i’m a GREAT surfer.
sometimes
omg
i forget how to swim.
how is this possible
to forget how to swim?!
isn’t it supposed to be like riding a bike?
how can sometimes
i feel light and buoyant
in body and spirit
and
other times not.
such is the ebb and flow
of life
and
the emotions that make us human.
so really
this cork vs. rock thing
is about HOW
we navigate our emotions.
how we address
handle
process
and
release
that which we FEEL.
why is it that life draws such powerful things
out from our depths?
why is it that we sometimes cannot deal with what surfaces?
maybe that is when we sink to the bottom.
when what comes to the surface is just too much.
but WHY is it too much?
what can we do to address it?
face it?
dissolve
whatever ‘it’ is?
ah
the question of human existence
the BIG one.
how do we gracefully navigate
what lies beneath the surface
within us
within us…..
with the potential to consume us.
how does it get there?
where does it come from?
why? why? why?
i often ponder the existence of emotion
how it serves
and
how it can destroy.
combined with the all powerful mind
you potentially have a deadly cocktail
or
a healing elixir
a panacea.
when we find ourselves sinking
we hold the life raft.
when we find ourselves getting pulled under
we can grow gills.
we can morph. change. evolve. expand. regenerate. adapt.
but we still find ourselves @ the bottom of the ocean.
why?
so many questions.
what it comes down to
i feel
is our lack of tools
for our unruly minds
and
our belief that ‘i can’t’ <
tools?
training the mind requires
persistence
and
absolute commitment.
each time you find yourself thinking an unpleasant thought <
or reacting to an emotion <
you MUST counter it with a thought that FEELS better >
climb UP the thought ladder >
this can even be done when sinking.
there is ALWAYS a thought that feels better
than the one you are experiencing.
our emotions can trigger thoughts
which then trigger old beliefs
which then constrict our entire being
and
limit our possibilities
our life
and
our world.
cork? or rock?
some
i feel
are addicted to being a rock.
the ever sinking
impossible life
of a rock at the bottom of the abyss.
even a rock in an abyss can get moved
somehow making it to the surface
right?
a playful dolphin
a curious scuba diver.
there is ALWAYS a way to the surface
unless you don’t want to find it.
why does it sometimes feel better to just sink
and
get swallowed by the circumstance
give in
give up
not care anymore.
i know sometimes it feels like a fight
but we are only fighting ourselves.
me vs. me: the Great Battle
we have and have always had the power within
to bear, endure and rise to the surface!
we have the POWER!
did you hear that?
the change that lies just above the surface
is ours.
ours.
we are infinitely powerful beings
capable of whatever we seek.
don’t let anyone
especially yourself
make you believe otherwise.
even tho we have been trained
by our family
and
our culture
to believe we are less than <
we truly are great >
deep thoughts on a tuesday.
may you climb the ladder of good feelings
good thoughts
and
the belief that YOU ARE AMAZING.
